A legend touches down, a city awaits.
Jose Chameleone landed in Nairobi on Thursday morning, ahead of his much-anticipated appearance at the Kisumu Old School R&B Brunch scheduled for this weekend.
The award-winning musician, known for hit tracks such as Valu Valu, Mama Mia, and Bageya, was spotted arriving in the country, jetting in ready for the concert that has to take place in Kisumu .
According to the update, the star is expected to travel to Kisumu, where he will headline the 5th edition of the brunch event on Saturday, July 5, at Tom Mboya Labour College.The Kisumu Old School R&B Brunch, an annual celebration of retro music and fashion, has quickly gained traction in the western region of Kenya for its unique theme and star-studded performances.
This year’s edition features a "Denim & White" dress code and promises a fusion of classic R&B with live performances from regional icons—Chameleone being the main act.
This marks the first time the celebrated singer will perform in Kisumu, a move that has sparked excitement among his fans in the lakeside city.
Event organizers have reported increased demand for advance tickets as locals and regional visitors prepare for what they call “a nostalgic and soulful afternoon.”
Chameleone’s relationship with Kenya dates back to the early 2000s when he recorded his breakout hit "Bageya" featuring Redsan under the Nairobi-based Ogopa Deejays label.
Jose, began as a DJ in Kampala in 1996, but his singing career truly took off in Nairobi around 1998 to 2000, when he released "Begaya" featuring Redsan and later the album Mama Mia.
Kenyan music industry, especially Ogopa Deejays, shaped his signature sound: a blend of Luganda, Swahili, English, Ugandan folk, rumba, zouk, and reggae.
Since then, he has continued to enjoy a loyal fan base across the region and has frequently credited Kenya as his “musical home.”
In previous interviews, the singer has referred to Kenya as his “mother” and Uganda as his “father,” a symbolic reference to the role the Kenyan music industry played in launching his career.
While his exact itinerary in Kenya remains undisclosed, sources close to the organizers suggest he will also engage with fans and media in Kisumu ahead of the Saturday performance.
Security has been heightened at the venue as preparations continue. As anticipation builds, fans are hopeful for an energetic performance that will blend Chameleone’s greatest hits with the event’s old school theme.
