Nairobi to Host First-Ever Drone Light Show for Purple Tower Launch
This Wednes
day, 28 May, Nairobi’s night sky is set to be transformed into a dazzling display of light, movement, and cutting-edge technology as the city welcomes its first-ever drone light show.
The spectacle will coincide with the official unveiling of The Purple Tower—a futuristic green-tech skyscraper located along Mombasa Road.
The aerial display promises to be a visual feast, with hundreds of synchronised drones lighting up the skyline in intricate formations.
Equipped with LED lights and choreographed to a specially composed soundtrack, the drones will depict a narrative of sustainability, innovation, and architectural ambition.
Organisers have likened the upcoming show to those staged in cities such as Dubai and Shanghai, describing it as “a show like no other” and a milestone moment for Nairobi and the wider East African region.
Branded under the slogan “Purple is the New Green,” the tower stands as a testament to sustainable development in Africa’s urban spaces.
According to the developers, the skyscraper has been engineered to significantly reduce its environmental footprint.
The building is expected to use 27% less energy, 41% less water, and 33% less embodied material energy compared to traditional designs.
These features make The Purple Tower one of the most environmentally conscious buildings ever constructed in the region.
“This building isn’t just purple—it’s purpose-built,” said one of the lead architects involved in the project. “We’ve set out to create more than just a landmark. The goal was to build a functional and symbolic structure that represents the future of sustainable urban living in Africa.”The event is being hailed as a dual celebration—marking both the arrival of Nairobi’s greenest skyscraper and Kenya’s very first drone light show.
The fusion of art, architecture, and technology is expected to draw crowds from across the city, with organisers encouraging the public to attend and witness the historic moment.
“What usually dazzles the skies of global cities like Dubai is now coming to Nairobi,” the organisers added. “It’s our city’s time to shine.”
The event will be free and open to the public, with ideal viewing spots recommended around South B, Belle Vue, and select areas along the Nairobi Expressway.
